Squarespace vs. Webflow vs. WordPress: Let’s Break It Down

June 18, 2025

Three Web Platforms We Actually Use (and Actually Like)

When we kick off a new web project at DayCloud Studios—a women-owned branding agency in the Midwest—we always start with the same question: what’s your current website situation?

There are a ton of platforms out there (Wix, Shopify, something your nephew coded in 2011), but in our experience building websites for brands across Omaha and beyond, three come up again and again: Squarespace, Webflow, and WordPress. Each one brings something different to the table, depending on the client’s needs, and we’ve built everything from one-page wonders to content monsters using these tools.

Here’s a breakdown of how we think about each, based on real-life builds from the team behind one of the top web design agencies in Omaha (we have receipts).

Squarespace: The Stylish Starter

Squarespace gets a bad rap sometimes, but honestly? She’s doing her best—and doing it pretty well. Squarespace is affordable, easy to manage, and can still look great if you know how to push it (which we do).

Why We Like It:

  • User-friendly interface

  • Affordable and all-in-one (hosting, updates, security)

  • Professional-looking templates

  • No dev team needed for edits.

  • Great for quick turnarounds

  • Has built-in course and e-commerce tools

  • We can still bring the DayCloud touch (and minimize the templated look)

What's Lacking:

  • Not super flexible if you want fancy features or a ton of custom design.

  • Can feel restrictive as your business grows; you’re working within their system, so you hit a ceiling faster.
  • Bare-bones SEO and analytics tools

Good fit for: Small businesses, solo founders, local service providers—anyone who needs a solid digital presence without blowing the budget.

Webflow: The Design-First Overachiever

Webflow is our middle child. If you’ve outgrown Squarespace but don’t need a fully custom-coded solution, Webflow is your best friend. It’s the perfect balance of design freedom and functional flexibility.

Why We Like It:

  • Super flexible design-wise—great for bold brands and visual storytelling.

  • Sites are fast, clean, and built to scale.

  • User-friendly CMS options for updating blogs, portfolios, case studies, etc.

  • Great for brands with bold visual identities

  • Feels polished without feeling bloated

What's Lacking:

  • Slight learning curve for editing (we’ll train you, don’t worry).

  • Not quite as plug-and-play as Squarespace

  • Hosting and updates are handled separately

  • Not ideal for super complex site needs (see: WordPress below).

Good Fit for: Growing brands that want more visual storytelling power—without the overhead of a full dev team.

WordPress: The Powerhouse

WordPress is our go-to for brands that need more complexity—think long-form content, advanced integrations, or fully custom user experiences. It’s endlessly flexible but requires a lot more TLC during development.

Why We Like It:

  • Fully customizable (seriously, sky’s the limit)

  • Huge library of themes and plugins

  • Powerful SEO tools

  • Scales with your business

  • Perfect for sites with heavy content or specialized features

What's Lacking:

  • Not as intuitive for beginners

  • Requires ongoing updates + maintenance

  • Security depends on setup

  • Can get clunky and plugin-happy fast (we help with that too)

Good Fit for: Established businesses, content-heavy platforms, or any brand looking for a long-term, scale-ready website.

So… Which One is “Best”?

Honestly, none of them—and all of them. It just depends on what you need. At DayCloud, we choose platforms based on your goals, not what’s trendy. Whether you’re launching your first business or refreshing a 10-year-old brand, we’ll make sure your site feels just right.

We’re proud to be a women-owned branding agency helping businesses across the country build websites that reflect who they are and where they’re going. If you’re ready to refresh your digital home, we’re ready to help you build it.
